The globalization trend in recent years has been bringing in foreign firms to Indian markets while Indian firms have been expanding to foreign markets. This and the opening up of the Indian economy have significantly increased the level of competition in different service and manufacturing industries. Firms have realized that the improvement of efficiency and effectiveness of operations and supply chains is very critical to survive the competition and to emerge as successful performers. This realization has in turn encouraged firms to orient their operations and supply chain managers to be fully prepared to face the challenges of today’s competitive environment.
